Edinburgh: Festival heaven

For the best annual line up of festivals in the world, head to Scotland’s compact, hilly capital city – Edinburgh.

Kicking off in March with the International Science Festival and rounding off the year with a traditional Hogmanay on New Year’s Eve, there is a whole host of events in between that ensures the city is buzzing with fascinating activity during every season.

The International Children’s Festival springs to life in May, International Film is highlighted in June, and Jazz & Blues take centre stage in July. And in August the city is simply brimming with artistic sounds, sights and celebrations as the infamous Edinburgh International Festival presents three full weeks of the finest arts creators and performers from around the world.

The written word comes into focus at Edinburgh’s International Book Festival, also in August, and as the nights draw in during Autumn, the Scottish International Storytelling Festival gets underway.
